An accidental blog

The Evangelical ecologist

The Evangelical Ecologist is a blog worth checking out: "A Christian ecoblog - 'cause the world isn't ours to mess up Psalm 24:1."

Why the blog? I started it because I think there's a need for a conservative evanglical voice in the environmental movement today. Clearly, though, I'm not the evangelical ecologist. All of us who desire to care for God's creation while spreading the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ are evangelical ecologists. And this site is here to help.

Judeochristian tradition is based upon a mythic struture in which the Earth was created for the benefit of creatures made in the image of God - that would be us - and the purpose of the Universe and History is to carry humankind to our ultimate apotheosis. Long story short: the Universe is a disposable stage set for the Story of Man. I understand Bush's ecology, but not this mealy-mouthed evangelical pap!

I'm suprised you should say that the universe is a disposable stage! I would disagee. The earth is the Lord's and we are its stewards. I would maintain that the earth is to be part of the eschatalogical consummation; the Day of the Lord involves the transformation of the earth, rather than its destruction - otherwise the meek might be very disappointed!

Point taken, Steve (btw I should have written "structure" in my original reply). But that "meek will inherit the Earth" stuff is NT, while the purpose of the Universe story is OT. I think we have to go with Dad over Juniour on this point (and avoid the tempation of suspecting that J.C. may have been giving the meek the mick).

In the OT there is also themes of restoration of the earth, for example, Is 11, 35, 65, Joel 3:18, Amos 9:13.

Cheers,
Steve
